TRAFFIC REGULATION IS A BIG PROBLEM IN DELHI NCR, THEN WHAT IS THE SOLUTION IS THE QUESTION -odds and even system was introduced, but has mostly been abandoned. -traffic police has been posted to challan the traffic rules breakers Despite all these efforts, traffic remains in chaos, least to talk of having been regulated. Lakhs of challans are pending for hearing in courts. Courts are already overburdened with pendency of cases for years. Many defaulters do not attend the court hearings. Now it appeared in the newspapers that driving licence of those who are regular defaulters will be impounded/cancelled. QUESTION ARISES WHY TRAFFIC RULES ARE BROKEN The main cause is that traffic does not move on smoothly, it gets blocked at many places, run into traffic jams and move on in slowest speed. All such factors incite the road travellers not to bother for traffic rules, if ever caught, shall face the situation, remain least bothered in order to reach their desired destination in time. Further,for these traffic jams and/or in sluggish movement of traffic, traffic police generally remains least bothered for additional unnecessary petrol cost by the travellers, further it adds to pollution a lot as well. WHAT IS ESSENTIAL REQUIRED TO REGULATE THE TRAFFIC RATHER THAN RESORTING TO CHALLANS. ANSWERS SEEM TO BE TO ADOPT PERAPS THE FOLLOWING MEASURES; 1. the traffic police instead of getting stationed at hidden places aside the roads, to care for challans, must be posted at different places where traffic jam is generally observed, be present at some possible traffic jam places, in the same manner as we see lot of volunteers standing on road to regulate the traffic as and when functions of BEAS religious organisation take place. 2. Create maximum U turns and as such minimise traffic lights. 3. sewage and road repair works must be done mostly at night, to some extent on holidays etc. 4. to create more flyovers and metro lines. 5. instead of resorting to challans of traffic breakers,itI will be better to take them aside off the road and make them wait for ½ hour so, which possibly could persuade the traffic breakers not to break traffic rules as otherwise they will be getting more delayed and possibly punished by the bosses/owners at their destination.
